Ani Difranco
Angela Maria Ani DiFranco, a Canadian-American singer and songwriter. More than 20 albums have been released by her. DiFranco categorizes her music under the terms folk-rock and alternative. However, it has influences from punk, hip-hop, and jazz. The widely regarded feminist icon Grammy recipient Ani DiFranco is considered to be the father of the DIY movement, and was among the first artists to create her own record label in the year 1990. DiFranco was born on the 23rd of September 1970 in the city of Buffalo in New York. She is the daughter of Elizabeth (Ross), who came across Dante Americo DiFranco while studying at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Her father was of Italian roots and her mother was born in Montreal. Ani Difrasco composed and recorded the track "32 Flavors". This track is on her sixth studio album Not a Pretty Girl released in 1995. The song's version can be heard on the 1999 Canadian romantic movie Better Than Chocolate. DiFranco apologized in 2013 after it was revealed that she would be hosting the three-day workshop on an Louisiana slave plantation. The event was cancelled, but some (including the newspaper) did not think it was a sign of regret. DiFranco apologized for her mistake a couple of days later. Though she's most well-known for her role as Little Folksinger, her style covers a variety of genres. Her collaborators include Pete Seeger and Chuck D to Prince. She lives in New Orleans. DiFranco was a graduate at age 16 from Buffalo Academy for Visual and Performing Arts High School, was the first to study at Buffalo State College. Her new baritone guitar was custom Alvarez built following a series of consultations between her myself and Chrys Johnson, who was an artist rep for Alvarez when the guitar was made. There she lives with her husband, kids and her long-legged sidekick Lefty. DiFranco acknowledges that three decades after her debut on the music scene, she has mixed feelings when looking back. Ani DiFranco rose to iconic status as a songwriter/singer and punk/folk at the age 25 both with the public and critics, when she released Not A Pretty Girl. Dilate was a huge success and brought more fame for DiFranco's music, in 1996. "Brandy" (You're a Fine Girl) by American Pop Rock band Looking Glass is from the album Looking Glass.
